Refreshed by our quick plunge into the cold waters of Councellor's Strand, it was off once again out into the bay as we routed to Waterford City and the wonderful Tall Ships festival! The greatly increased numbers of boats in the area was clearly obvious at this stage, as boats from far and wide congugated in the estuary and headed up the marked channel into the city. Some of the sail boats, in particular, had come great distances, and we exchanged salutes with some very fine cruisers from France, Germany, Holland, and the UK. What an air of excitement! Ken of course, our resident comic, kept us entertained all the way and produced pirate hats a music system! And so into Waterford City where the quays were spectacularly lined with some of the finest old ships still sailing today! The city was awash with visitors and media, and the Aer Corps heavy maratime patrol Casa aircraft thundered overhead! What a sight! Lots of chat and joking and photographs as we circled the harbour a second time, and then a third, and finally it was back downriver once again as we routed back to Dunmore East, our planned home for the night! And once again we found a little wind and sailed past Passage East and Credan Head and onwards to Dunmore, arriving at 10.30pm and making fast outside the massive Credan Lady trawling ship, alongside Dermot Greer's very full sail training vessel Yola. Jumped ship (literally) and headed for the Chinese restaurant, the only place still serving at this hour. Excellent dinner (after 6 hours out on the water food tastes 10 times better than usual) with lots of Tiger beers and lots of jokes from Ken about the "automatic duck". Back to Neidin where there was music and a keg and we were joined bu some of Dermot's crew and by some of our other neighbours. A late late night but lots of fun!!
