Exploring westwards from Crosshaven. Sat 16th - Mon 18th July.

What a wind! For three days it never left up for a moment, blowing at 25 knots through Crosshaven and making life on a swinging mooring entirely unpracticable. Josh and I moved the boat onto the RCYC marina, and arrived at our berth with both the wind and the tide behind us, our motor hard in reverse to soften our of arrival. Certainly not the traditional way of doing it, but we lined it up early, tried to understand what the elements had in mind, and greased the final 10 meters into our stand! Whew! Added additional mooring lines to make sure it stayed there!
And so, with boating out of the question, we set to exploring the surrounding areas by car! Crosshaven has many very fine restaurants but they seem to stop serving at 8.30pm and we somehow managed to miss this unusually early deadline on the first evening. On the second evening however we ate in "The Anchor" and, although the food was quite passable, we felt that it was massively overpriced given its mediocre setting! And so we decided that we would be eating aboard next time we visit Crosshaven! Headed westwards along the coast the following morning to Garristown's wonderful blue-flag beach and enjoyed a bracing walk in the wildest and most blustery of conditions. And then back to Kinsale on a scouting mission in advance of our next passage! What a town! Have never seen so many Bridgestone and Egon Ronay awards! They decorate the front walls of the towns many restaurants like pebble-dash in a housing estate! Spent a most enjoyable afternoon browsing the towns many galleries and curios stores. Spotted a tiny marina alongside the Trident Hotel and decided that it was the ultimate place to berth a boat in Kinsale! Took a phone number for Soverign Sailing and decided that I would call them during the week in the off chance that they could find us a spot.
