Woke at 7am in Kilmore Quay to the thundering sound of the new all-weather lifeboat departing to rescue a not-so-well-found riverboat which was being ferried along the coast to Wexford. The chop had thrown the boat around a bit, and caused years of contaminants to foul the fuel, and stop the engine. The boat's owner looked a little worse for wear when he was towed back into the harbour some two hours later, and you would have to admire the commitment of those lads on the Lifeboat who are prepared to drop everything and head out to sea at the drop of a hat.

Meanwhile, after a lazy breakfast, I headed up to Kehoe's excellently stocked marine chandlery and purchased the chain, buoy, swivel, and shackles I needed to complete my new swinging mooring at Dunmore East. With 4 inch links, the chain was extraordinarily heavy and the owner of the store delivered me back to the marina in his van and loaded it into a cart with me. Transfering it onto our boat (rafted outside s/y Amoret) was done by drawing it through the water and loading it securely into one of the lockers.
Now, fully loaded, it was time to set out for Dunmore East and, after saying our goodbyes, we headed out to the safe water mark and established a run for our destination. Winds were light at first, increasing steadily as the morning passed, to give a good blow as we neared Dunmore. Trailed a fishing line as we sailed but caught absolutely nothing. The final run from Hook to Dunmore was most efficient and we clocked 8 knots and sailed right to our target with just one tack to correct our track. In the end the passage took just over 4 hours, not bad given the slack winds over the earlier part of the journey.
