Jim and Lez Kompa very kindly invited me to join them aboard their excellently restored Peterson 32 "Country Girl" and, being keen to understand what life is like on a fast racing boat, I was delighted to join them. Well now I know!!!! It's both fascinating and exhilarating, but very demanding on the body. Undoubtedly you are making great speed, but you are living on the edge, and you get the impression all the time that you are only one moment away from a serious wetting. But, of course, thats the very joy of it! By comparison Neidin is a retirement home, an ultra conservative platform where tea making facilities are just as important as performance. Now if I could find a boat with a fully fitted galley that sailed just as fast as Country Girl, I would be away with it!! A great day out on the water, indeed so great that I volunteered to join the lads again the following day!
