Leg 2. Hook, Credan, and Dunmore to Waterford. Sat 9th April 2011.

The passage from Dunmore East to Duncannon Fort was really delightful with strong winds but calm seas. Even with furled sails we were clipping along and enjoying the ride. We all agreed that our early start to the season would pay great dividends in terms of handling and speed over the summer months.

The old sailing adage that "there is no inappropriate weather only inappropriate clothing" is indeed true. With some careful monitoring of the many sources of weather forecasting available these days, the months of March and April are perfectly sailable here in Ireland.

Passing Bellview Port, home of Fyffes, through which every banana in Ireland and the UK passes! The ships carrying the bananas cruise all the way from Honduras at a massive 25 knots in order that the produce is fully fresh when it reaches its market. Indeed, to reach these very high speeds, the ships have done away with bowthrusters and so they have to be turned by tugs at both ends of their journeys. Cool!

Passage: Dunmore East to Waterford. Local Sailing.
Date: Saturday 9th April 2011.
Crew: Neill Mc Grory. Kevin Nolan. Ferghal Dowling. Fia.
