Day 2. Upriver through Cheekpoint & Bellview. Sat 16th April 2011.

Departing DE in continuing light winds, we headed for Credan Head with full mainsail out one side and headsail on a spinnaker pole out the other. Three and a half knots was probably not bad in the circumstances, and we were after all heading in the direction we needed. At Credan we established a broad reach to take us into the estuary and finally into the River Suir. It was only then, strangely, that the wind returned and carried us fairly quickly past the Car Ferry and up towards Cheekpoint. With a little help from our motor we rounded the head and made great passage onwards up to Bellview Port and the Kings Channel. Tacking over and back, and using the full width of the river, we had a most exciting and demanding sail the rest of the way home. Ferghal and Frieda found themselves working flat-out on the winches as we went-about over and over again to make our way up the river. Really great fun and good practice too!
Arrival into WCM too was textbook perfect and we ferry-glided impressively into our slot on the pontoon. We seem to be getting better at this.....at last!!! A great crew and a great weekend!
