Day 2. Good Morning Dunmore East! Sat 16th April 2011.

Nicest thing happened when we arrived in Dunmore East last night! As we tied up a figure appeared on the quayside and called down to us. It was Helen the sister of my old college friend John Bowe! John has been living out in Australia for the last 20 years and I hadn't heard from him in all those years until we came across each other on Facebook just 2 months ago! Turned out he was a cousin of a good friend of mine and my name popped up on his computer!! John had spotted our itinerary and had forwarded the blog posting to Helen! Wow! Although I had never met her before, it was the nearest thing to a reunion, and lots of old stories were told and retold! Helen and husband Willie have lots of lots of sailing experience and have promised to join us shortly on Neidin.

Waking up in Dunmore East is always a pleasure and especially so when the weather is good. We hoisted some colourful signal flags (NEIDIN) and headed to the Bay Cafe for breakfast. Usual wonderfully stretched out breakfast with pots and pots of tea. Great! Back to the boat in time to see John Elmes beautiful Hallbery Rassy "Rascal" being craned into the water. Now thats a nice boat!

A very obliging fisherman told us he had seen up to 50 basking sharks about 6 miles offshore just yesterday, so we will be keeping a good look out as we go! They are generally between 20 and 26 feet in length, and they seem to be feeding in Irish waters very early this year. Cool!
